Swimming Collides with Lehman

SUNY Old Westbury men’s and women’s swimming returned to the pool Wednesday evening on the road against the Lehman College Lightning (M: 1-0; W: 1-0) inside APEX Swimming Pool in Bronx, New York. Lehman swept Old Westbury (M: 0-3; W: 0-4) with a 93-60 men’s score and an 83-55 women’s final.

Joseph Malone led the Panther men with victo- ries in the 1,000-yard free- style (10:54.88; season-best) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.18). Daniel McCartney followed by winning the 50-yard freestyle event in 23.81 (season-best) and claimed first-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.37, season-best) while Alejandro Ruiz-Soto (50-yard freestyle, 33.93) and Tilyk Bonner (50-yard freestyle, 44.19) finished in fourth and sixth place, respectively. Daniel Grinchenko finished in third in the 100-yard freestyle a time of 1:10.35 and placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:42.11). Timothy Probst finished the 200-yard IM in 2:53.43 to place third and placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:25.13). Jassell Mateo added a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:28.66). In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Ruiz-Soto, Mateo, Lorenzo Cusumano and Probst captured first-place points in a season-best time of 1:48.86.

On the women’s side, Mia Hidalgo paced Old Westbury with a time of 1:30.88 (season-best) in the 100-yard breaststroke to claim first-place points while finishing in second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:41.28, season-best) and 200-yard IM (3:06.35, season-best). Adelyn Veras chipped in by claiming first-place points in the 100-yard butterfly (1:32.03, season-best), finished in second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.50, season-best) and captured second-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:43.65). In the 50-yard freestyle event, Magan Blige (38.78), Yvette Domond (39.52), Diana Castellanos (41.06) and Domanaye Newman (54.47) placed in 5-6-7-8 for the Panthers. Dina Terki placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (3:22.39) and 100-yard backstroke (1:45.20). Rebecca Warshauer (1:36.08) and Castellanos (1:38.43) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle race.

The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Magan Blige, Castellanos, Terki and Warshauer combined to finish in 2:34.70 for first-place points.
