Presidential Search Update

On April 6th, an email was sent out to the SUNY Old Westbury community by Mili Makhijani, chair of the presidential search committee, providing an update of the president search.

The advertisement for the president of the college has been finalized and approved by the chancellor’s office and posted to online venues this past Friday. Makhijani stated, “While we continue to try and embrace the ‘new normal,’ I am pleased to report that the search process has been steadily progressing.”

In January, President Calvin O. Butts III announced in an email that he would remain in office until the search committee could find a new president. The “Preferred Presidential Characteristics Survey” was later launched in February where members of the campus community had a chance to provide desired characteristics for the next president. Around the same time,  the search consultants, RPA Inc, had visited the college campus, meeting with various constituent groups.

Since then, the search committee has worked with the search consultants reviewing feedback from the campus community, finalizing the search timeline, and ensuring that key candidate qualities and important elements are reflected in the recruitment process. “Our goal remains to cast as wide a net as possible to attract highly qualified, diverse candidates,” said Makhijani.

Makhijani stated that the search committee is doing its best to stay on schedule in order to appoint a new president by the early fall.

Interested candidates can send a cover letter and resume to SUNYOldWestbury@rpainc.org. The first review of candidates will begin on May 18th and first round interviews will be conducted after. The job advertisement is available on the RPA Inc.’s website. The search process will remain confidential. Comments and suggestions on the search process itself should be submitted to presidential_search@oldwestbury.edu.
