Quarantine Mindfullness

What is helping you feel “normal”? What are the non-negotiables in your daily routine?

Patterns show up in our lives in many ways. Some of them are subconscious and habitual, like washing our bodies the same way each time we shower. Others are very active choices we make, like brushing our teeth and exercising.

Think about all the patterns that exist in your life. Do you always look at your phone when you wake up? Do you eat the same thing for breakfast every day?

Reflect on these patterns. Which ones contribute to you feeling happy, healthy, your most complete “you”? Which ones might be able to be changed, or replaced with a more “active choice” pattern?

Today’s affirmation: I am malleable! I have the power to create my day. I make active choices about my routine. I choose me, at every moment in my existence.

It has been three weeks since my job shut down and serious quarantine began. Over the past three weeks, I have cooked and eaten amazing meals, laughed like no tomorrow, cried, taken walks to breathe fresh air, connected with friends in a cool, new and virtual way, written new poetry, and joined Tik Tok. I was so scared at the beginning of all this. Terrified of financial hardship, loneliness, and depression. I know it’s not easy for anyone right now, and some people are working the front lines, or have health conditions, or are stuck in an abusive household. Some of us, find ourselves staring at the ceiling, in between the six hours of mindless scrolling with the television on.

I have found to be extremely grateful for this time. I have learned that I am never truly alone and that I can always trust myself to survive. I’ve lost a lot of people over the years and it’s taught me to live every day like it could be my last.

So when the rare moments of reflection flutter through my mind and I count my blessings, I try to let go of anger, say I love you, send goodnight texts, and cherish these small moments. I hope that you’re all doing okay, and I urge you to remember what makes you feel happy and alive. Please invite those things into your life during this time even if it’s in a new way.

This is unchartered territory for all of us, but maybe we’ll come out of this learning some lessons about kindness, respect, gratitude, friendship, love, and strength.
