Grammy Award nominee and platinum recording artist Lil Uzi Vert released his long-awaited album Eternal Atake on March 6th. This was actually a surprise release since he originally alerted fans that it was going to come out the week after but instead dropped it the following morning.
This is Uzi’s second official project since his last album in 2017’s LUV is Rage 2. He announced the album in 2018, so, to say the least, this project was very anticipated and talked about all over the world due to the hype around Uzi’s name. Eternal Atake received a very well response and showed it to be worth the wait due to the success it got.
The album debuted number one on the US Billboard 200 and it became Lil Uzi Vert’s second US number one album. Some songs that were featured on the Billboard Hot 100 such as “Lo Mein” and “Silly Watch.” This project featured eighteen songs and being an hour and two minutes in total, Uzi showed his versatility from using upbeat instrumentals and melodies to using heavy melodic rap beats to spit bars. So many songs from this project can be used as an example of showing how versatile Uzi is with his music. He also took very interesting samples to make each and every song unique. For example, the song “That way,” is a sample of a hit single “I want it that way” by the boy band, The Backstreet Boys. A very interesting choice due to how uncommon a Backstreet Boys’ sample is used when making a rap song.
Uzi did not stop here! He also released a completely new album the following week in which it took so long to release but made it worthwhile. Lil Uzi Vert vs The World 2 was released on March 13th. It was supposed to just be a deluxe edition at first but ended up being turned into an entirely new album. It is a sequel to Lil Uzi Vert’s third mixtape, Lil Uzi Vert vs The World. This album featured so many guests from Chief Keef, 21 Savage, Future, Young Thug, Gunna, Lil Durk, Young Nudy, and Nav in comparison to Eternal Atake which only had one brief feature which is American singer and songwriter, Syd.
This deluxe assured that Uzi stayed on top of the Billboard 200 for a second straight week in total. The album was forty-four minutes long and since he put both projects together in one, it makes it a 32-song tracklist.
Uzi showed his commitment to producing the best music he could and releasing it in a large quantity. He also engaged with fans, allowing them to pick out the album cover via Twitter. He put out three different covers and asked fans to make their pick and choose which cover looks the best for Eternal Atake. For Lil Uzi Vert vs The World 2, he allowed fans to name the song “Myron.” Uzi also gave fans a voice by asking them what songs they wanted to hear on the deluxe, in which he included many songs fans waited years for. All together, I give this project a 10/10 so many gems and the fact that Uzi showed it was worth the wait, makes it so much better.
