A Resident Assistant Explains Why He Remained on Campus

Quinten Bullens is a 20-year-old junior at SUNY Old Westbury. As a Resident Assistant,  he had the option to stay on campus during the pandemic.

AA: Where on campus are you staying?

Quinten: I am residing in Hall 2.

AA: Is there a specific hall that students have to live in? Or was that your choice to live in Hall 2?

Quinten: Yes, all residents (30 students in total) have to reside in Hall 2.

AA: What are the regulations you have to follow while on campus during the pandemic?

Quinten: We are required to social distance all the time. We can’t leave campus unless we desperately need something.

AA: What about food? Are essentials provided for you there on the campus?

Quinten: Yes, The Market is still open.

AA: How long will you be allowed to stay on campus?

Quinten: Until summer or after summer.

AA: Why did you choose to stay on campus during quarantine?

Quinten: So my mom at home has a very low immune system and could get easily sick. I chose to stay to make sure that she stayed safe. I also chose to stay because it would have been very inconvenient for me to move all my stuff back home since my room there partially has my mom’s stuff in it and I would be moving a lot of stuff back to the point where it wouldn’t all fit. I also only had 3-4 days to figure where all of that stuff would go since I pretty much haven’t moved back home since winter break, my freshman year at SUNY Old Westbury.
