Governor Andrew Cuomo announced during a briefing on April 27th that the medical centers being built on campus (along with the three other locations being built in the state) will be put on hold until the fall flu season, where it is expected for a second wave of the coronavirus to occur or bind with the regular flu season. “I spoke to the President about leaving them in place until we get through the flu season,” said Governor Cuomo. “God forbid we need extra capacity again, I don’t want to have ask the federal government to build capacity then take it down and wind up in another problem area.”
SUNY Old Westbury President Calvin O. Butts III sent an email alerting the college community of this update. “As we make plans for the fall semester, please know that we are keeping SUNY Old Westbury aligned with guidance offered by public health officials at the local and state levels,” said President Butts. “No one can say today whether we will be together again in the fall or whether distance learning will still be in play, but please know our goal remains the same as it has since this situation began — to enable students to pursue their studies in a productive, safe environment of the highest caliber possible.”
