Halloween During COVID

Halloween is right around the corner and the COVID-19 pandemic is shaking things up once again. This year, the holiday falls on a Saturday night with a full moon, and things couldn’t get any spookier. Unfortunately, Halloween just won’t be the same this year and finding alternative ways to celebrate the holiday is looking more and more appealing. Despite the circumstances, having a fun Halloween is still possible.

The circumstances surrounding the holiday this year are causing people to change up their plans, and some safer alternatives have popped up across the country. Parents are trying to provide their children with a safer way to celebrate a kid-friendly Halloween. Some neighborhoods are opting for a socially distanced grab and go trick-or-treating scenario, while others are using candy dispensers and drive-by’s to give out their treats.

Still, some are opting to throw Halloween parties, which may be kept small with just family and close friends to celebrate this year. Many feel that the holiday isn’t the same without some trick-or-treating fun and costume get-togethers. Growing up, I always looked forward to dressing up and going trick-or-treating, but the pandemic has drastically changed things this year, and a majority of people believe that a party isn’t the best way to spend the upcoming holiday, Who knew that the kind of masks we’d be wearing at Halloween parties would be protecting us from something even scarier than the monsters and ghosts we all feared growing up?

While it feels like I’m missing out on seeing everyone’s Halloween costumes, I look forward to seeing friends’ Halloween costumes online. Even though it isn’t what we expected it to be this year, there are still many safe and fun ways to add the spooky season feeling to our lives. This doesn’t have to stop the Halloween fun; it can continue from the comfort of our homes. Set up a scary movie night, dress up, and bring on the Halloween Spirit!
