Wendy Williams: The Movie takes you through a lifelong depiction of longtime media personality Wendy Williams who faced hardships all her life and became a successful woman through it all. The movie centers on the hidden insecurities Williams shares exclusively with viewers to inspire younger women in knowing you can become a diamond from the rough. Choosing actors that resemble and represent each person that affected Wendy Williams’ life is what made the movie so personal, yet relatable. So many people in the entertainment business have documentaries or movies that do not accurately depict their lives according to them.

What makes this movie more appealing is the introduction of a child who feels ashamed because of her weight. Usually, some documentaries start off being happy and showing how great life is until the movie reaches the plot where things take a turn for the worst. Seeing issues such as body shaming, low self- esteem, and inabilities to fit in with other kids showed the struggles Williams went through without painting this image of her life being picture perfect.

According to the NY Daily News, “Wendy Williams: The Movie’ drew 2.9 million total viewers, besting all titles it had the last nine months among adults between the ages of 25 and 54, and women of the same age range.” Using the movie as a platform to exploit the horrible things that happened to her during her marriage most importantly empowers women to not rely on men who exhibit toxic and manipulative behavior. and shut down because of her confidence to say what other people were thinking. Believing in herself while her own family tried to alter her image and her husband tried to metally and emotionally abuse her through manipulation, lies, and cheating, overcame it all.

After watching this movie, I can personally add on to the message the movie offers especially to young women is to never give up on your dreams. Wendy Williams was found herself ridiculed and shut down because of her confidence to say what other people were thinking. Believing in herself while her own family tried to alter her image and her husband tried to metally and emotionally abuse her through manipulation, lies, and cheating, overcame it all.
