The month of February is known as the month of love and the time where romantic movies are watched on a loop, except for this dramatic movie which doesn’t exactly showcase love. But viewers who quickly glance over and read the summary for Malcolm and Marie will think it’s filled with romance.
Two strangers meet and form a friendship or believe it’s love at first sight, but that’s when everything gets turned on its head. If you’re looking for a movie that displays the true reality of relationships, this is the movie for you. A film captured in black and white creates a gloomy tone for the entirety of the film. The intensity and the foul language shared between the couple is the dialogue that only takes place in the beginning.
Malcolm and Marie are a couple who have experienced trials and triumphs together and on their own, and viewers are able to see the couples disappointments in the relationship and how they switch it to something positive. Facing drug addictions, lack of appreciation, and a lack of communication, Malcolm and Marie portray real life situations to reach out to viewers who can empathize with them. This movie in particular teaches people to value their significant others as you celebrate the other person’s accomplishments.
Although the movie remains confined to one setting, the amount of compassion and emotion that is in every sentence, especially the scene where Malcolm belittles Marie for her lack of showing how proud of him she should have been. Malcolm just finished his movie debut and not hearing her name in the credits was the only thing that Malcolm failed to do.
