Biden’s July 4 Decree Would Be Great, But It’s Going to Take Effort

Ever since taking over as President of the United States in January, President Joe Biden and his administration have made it a top priority to effectively handle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in order to get the country back to as close to a level of “normalcy” as possible. Backed by scientists like Dr. Anthony Fauci, the effort to vaccinate more people and bring down cases seems to be working to a degree, to a point where people seem to be more confident in the United States’ effort to control the pandemic than they were months ago under the command of former president Donald Trump.

Recently, President Biden has put out a goal for the United States, with the hope that all Americans will be eligible for vaccination by the month of May. He also hopes July 4 could be America’s “Independence Day” from COVID, a day where, hopefully, Americans would be able to have small gatherings in celebration of the national holiday, and get one step closer to true normality.

While this claim has been met with some resistance (mostly from Republican parties), people like Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker and Dr. Fauci have spoken out in support of Biden’s claim, with the latter going so far as to say that Biden’s prediction is “quite reasonable,” and that restrictions will be “much more liberal” by the Fourth of July if cases were to see a decline. Fauci also stressed that Biden’s prediction may not become a reality if restrictions were lifted too soon.

If I were to give a prediction, I would say that this would definitely not be an easy feat to accomplish, especially with all the times over the pandemic where America has tried to get back to some semblance of normalcy, but unfortunately saw an increase in cases as a result (look no further than this past winter for proof). Unlike those times, we have Biden in office now, and it’s not like he’s demanding that America completely reopen the country within a month of the pandemic starting.

President Biden has stressed that it will not be easy and that it will take time for America to truly get back to full normalcy, even with his July 4 declaration. We are still not out of the woods yet, but I have more confidence in Biden and his administration than the previous one, so I think that this can get done. Considering Fauci’s track record throughout the pandemic, if he supports what Biden is saying, I have little reason to argue against it.

However, if this is going to happen, it is going to take all of us coming together, following guidelines and wearing masks, in order to make sure that cases drop. If we can do this, not only can we make a somewhat-normal July 4 a reality, but we could also make a very proud leader out of our effort, as well. So, let’s get out there and do our country proud, America!
