The movie  Resort to Love displays the heroine Erica Wilson, who is portrayed by the actress and singer Christina Wilson, attempting to launch her music career in which her collaborator, a male artist, destroys their collaboration during a performance at a listening party. After the disappointment, Erica earned a gig to be a singer. However, during her struggles to stabilize her singing career, she meets Jason King(portrayed by actor and comedian Jay Pharoah)  in which the movie uses flashbacks to inform the audience that Jason was her ex-boyfriend. Jason has a new girlfriend with whom they are about to get married.

Suspense strikes the scenes as the audience is curious to know what happens between Erica and Jason. Erica realizes that she still has feelings for Jason. However, things get complicated when Caleb (portrayed by Sinqua Walls), Jason’s dashing brother falls in love with Erica and prevents her from falling in love again with Jason.

The film utilizes various humorous scenes to develop its plot and remains afloat despite its mediocrity. There is a sense of humor when Jason’s girlfriend insists on inviting Erica to their wedding without knowing that Erica is Jason’s ex-girlfriend and she has feelings towards him. The film utilizes dialogue and open communication in which Caleb and Erica create an environment where they are open and genuine towards their feelings. Beverly who is Jason’s fiance (portrayed by Christiani Pitts) informs Erica that she deserves someone who could love her, and Caleb is there for Erica. The movie brings out the theme of love and romance as Caleb falls in love with Erica and is determined to marry her. Erica also falls in love with Caleb though she feels some love feelings towards Jason, her ex-boyfriend.

The film’s setting indicates a coastal environment that feels cool and soothing to showcase the theme of romance. There are plenty of water and recreation areas, indicating a good environment for lovers. The romantic elements are much complemented by the beautiful environmental scenery accompanying the movie creating an image of a good place for newlywed couples to relax. The film does not entirely exploit the characters’ personality and their background in which the movie reveals that Caleb has a military background. Thus, it does not have enough time to appreciate and describe Caleb. However, via a lens of sleeping on ladies’ coaches and ever being the soberest individual, Netflix offers the audience the sort of responsible man the viewers can ever imagine.

The film brings about an unconventional feeling in which there is a risky drama between Erica and Jason when the two meet. However, their happy mood and surprise of meeting after a long time is interrupted by the presence of Beverly.  There is a relief for the audience when Erica and Jason show no attempts to revive their relationship. The drama’s climax in the film occurs when Erica is expected to sing in her ex-boyfriends’ wedding ceremony. Despite the intrigues that dominate the “resort to love,” the movie consists of comedy juxtaposed in a sweet story regarding falling in and out of love and a breezy island setting making the film enjoyable.
