Grammy-winning artists Mali Music and Jonathan McReynolds released a steamy album record live in Los Angeles called Jonny x Mali: Live in LA. Jonny’s and Mali’s album consists of six songs, most of which are classified as praise and worship.
Most of the songs in the album use expository style in their singing, and express their feelings and emotions towards God and religion. The singers express their humbleness by displaying a tone of politeness while singing. For instance, in the song “Enough,” Jonathan explains how the love of God is enough for mankind (0:04). In this song, they use repetition of some phrases regarding God’s love to emphasize the message in the song, which is the love of God.
However, the artists use descriptive words and phrases in the album. For instance, the song “Miracle” describes how people should look around and discover the meaning of life. The song emphasizes that if people understood life, they would realize that everything is God’s miracle.
The two singers also use contrasting tones to reveal the beauty of their songs, in which Jonathan utilizes a lower tone while Mali juxtaposes with a higher tone. For instance, in the song “Adulting,” Jonathan uses a high tone to express his feelings towards the concept and challenges people encounter once they become adults. Jonathan feels that the concept requires many responsibilities, which are challenging to achieve. However, Mali utilizes a low frequency as he explains to Jonathan that nothing is hard as long as they trust God. Through what seems like a dialogue in a song, the singers humbly encourage the audience to trust in God, and everything in life will be smooth.
The uplifting nature of the album is due to the various sound elements used in the songs. The amplitude in most of the songs brings out a soft feeling as the singers indicate their humbleness towards God. For instance, in the song “Adulting,” Mali uses amplitude when encouraging Jonathan that everything is possible when God is present.
The songs within the album portray different frequencies, as most of the songs have a blend of high and low tones. For instance, in the song “Movin’On,” the singers repeatedly use both frequencies to describe the act of moving on. The frequency here acts as a way of giving hope and motivating the audience about life; life should go on. The use of repetition with a high tone indicates that the singers are stressing that people should work on the betterment of themselves.
The use of prolonged duration is dominant in the album. One highlight that primarily mirrors in Jonny x Mali is the supercharged “Jump Ship.” The song is among the hits within the album that portrays a sense of prolonged duration. The prolonging of phrases brings out the beauty and the strengths of the singers in conveying their messages. When the singers prolong the duration of “Jump ship,” they stress the importance of trusting in God.
By incorporating several distinct songs, each with their own message, Jonny and Mali were able to make an undeniably memorable album that has attracted the attention of a large part of the world.
