Sex and the City (SATC) was an iconic show from 1994 to 2004, its premises following a group of four female friends that live in New York City, watching them navigate their dating, sex life, and friendships. Carrie Bradshaw played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Miranda Hobbs played by Cynthia Nixon, Charlotte York played by Kristin Davis, and my personal favorite Samantha Jones played by Kim Cattrall.

The show was written by Darren Starr and really put him on the map in Hollywood. Due to the popularity of the show and its iconic fashion, and characters, many fans still wanted the four ladies to return to television after their eighteen-year departure. As a fan of the show myself, I was rooting for these ladies to come back and give us more. My prayers and millions of others were answered when it was announced there would be a reboot titled And Just Like That

The show was set to premiere in December 2021. Sadly, Kim Cattrall has made it known for many years that she has moved on from playing the role of Samantha on the show; therefore she would not be interested in coming back for a reboot. Once I heard that many fans lost interest in the show because Samantha was many people’s favorite character.

Despite that, I decided to still watch. I was curious to see how the writers would portray these women, now in their fifties navigating through life. Many people who have watched the original show know the rollercoaster love story of Carrie and Mr. Big, who is played by Chris Noth. Within the first episode of the reboot, Mr. Big was killed off. It was a heartbreaker for many including myself. The love story between this couple has been important to all the fans. Many were rooting for them because of the amount of pain it was in the original show.

Many critics after watching the first episode alone went crazy. Many refused to watch the show after that jaw-dropping moment. One of the reasons SATC was so loved was because of how progressive the show was for the times. And Just Like That kept that same energy going. The show is very relatable to the world today. In the show they have one of the main characters, Miranda, exploring her sexuality. She has been married to a man named Steve and in the reboot, she falls in love with a non-binary character named Che. Che is played by Sara Ramirez, who many know from the hit show Grey’s Anatomy. In real life and in the show, Sara uses she/they pronouns. It was so interesting to me to see someone like Miranda, who is the typical ‘straight, white female’ exploring her sexuality. Another way the new reboot is exploring new storylines is by adding new characters who are people of color. This is something the original show lacked.

Overall, I would rate the show an 8.5 out of 10 if your a Sex and the City Fan I highly recommend you watch … And Just Like That.
