SUNY Old Westbury’s 56th commencement ceremony will be held at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, May 22 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held for all fall 2021, winter 2021, spring 2022, and summer 2022 graduates

The campus expects “one of our largest graduating classes in history,” said Danielle Collins Groner, director of communications at Old Westbury. One hundred sixty-three will be receiving Master’s degrees and 1,069 will receive undergraduate degrees.

The speaker for the commencement ceremonies will be the Honorable Edwina G. Richardson-Mendelson, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for Justice Initiatives for the New York State Unified Court System.

Judge Mendelson leads the Office for Justice Initiatives, tasked with ensuring meaningful access to justice for all New Yorkers in civil, criminal and family courts, regardless of income, background, or special needs. To serve this mission, the Office for Justice Initiatives administers pro bono attorney and other volunteer programs, self-help services, Help Centers, and many other resources designed to serve unrepresented court users, including resources to assist those navigating virtual court operations ushered in by the Covid-19 crisis.

Masks will be required for all attendees, although vaccine information will not. Greetings at the ceremony will be given by a faculty representative, students, and the college council. Each graduate will receive eight tickets.
