It’s March, which means Women’s History Month has officially begun! Even though many people know that International Women’s Day is on March 8, many people fail to realize that there is a Women’s History Month. Here is why it’s important to acknowledge it and celebrate it.
For starters, Women’s History Month empowers young girls and women across the world with courage and will power that they can do whatever they put their minds to. Women’s History Month also helps inspire the current and future generations of women to succeed, be treated equally to men, and to be recognized in society. Women’s History Month gives people the opportunity to learn about the great leaders, activists, and pioneers who have worked hard throughout the years to ensure that women are recognized in society and show the contributions that women throughout the world have made.
Another reason that it’s important for Women’s History Month to be celebrated is because there were many key events that happened during March that are important for women. The first major march in Washington DC was led by suffragists on March 3, 1913. The National Women’s Party was formed in March of 1917. The Equal Rights Amendment, which was the Amendment that was designed to guarantee equal legal rights to all American citizens regardless of their sex, was passed in the Senate on March 22, 1972.
We celebrate Women’s History Month to remind ourselves and others of the accomplishments and achievements of women throughout the years. We honor their contributions to our culture and society as a whole. It’s very important that we reflect on all women who have led the way for change then and the women who continue to lead the way for change in today’s world.
