The heartbreak singer-songwriter, Olivia Rodrigo, best known for her world famous hit “Drivers’ License,’’ recently released her sophomore album GUTS, through Geffen Records. Her sophomore album has been highly anticipated since the release of her debut album SOUR.
SOUR broke numerous records and was nominated for “Album of The year” at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. Rodrigo took home three Grammys that night, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Vocal Album, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
There was no doubt that people were wondering what Rodrigo was going to do next on her new project. Rodrigo’s new album consists of twelve tracks which were revealed on her instagram for the first time back in August.
Olivia Rodrigo starts off the first track ‘’All-American Bitch,’’ with a mellow tune, and continues on cool and collected throughout the verse. She surprises listeners with an eccentric chorus as she expresses teenage angst and the contradictions of her character throughout the rest of the song. She ends the song with a strong mix of vocals before descending down into a soft outro, inspired by the punk rock genre she experimented with on her last album.
Throughout the album Rodrigo admits her feelings of betrayal and bitterness towards her past lover who wronged her in tracks such as ‘’Logical,’’ “The Grudge,” and “Vampire.’’
Each of these tracks were heartfelt ballads sung over piano riffs, where she showcased her unaltered vocals and versatility.
Rodrigo has expressed her love and inspiration for artists like Avril Lavigne and rock bands from the 90s. These inspirations are apparent on the album, with the songs “Bad Idea Right?’’ “Ballad Of A Homeschooled Girl,” and “Love Is Embarrassing.” Each of these tracks show a punk rock side to Rodrigo that brings back feelings of nostalgia for the early 2000s.
On the tracks, “Making The Bed” and “Teenage Dream,” Rodrigo expresses her struggles with the negative aspects of fame and what it’s like being a teenage girl today.
Olivia Rodrigo has also announced news about her upcoming tour titled, the “GUTS World Tour’’ which includes a verified fan program on ticketmaster. People who are selected on September 20 for a verified fan presale code will be eligible to buy presale tickets on September 21, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
