Fashion Trends That Should Stay In The Closet

There are many fashion trends on campus. Which do students enjoy? Which do they dislike? The Catalyst asked two students about what they did not like about fashion on campus.

Asheia Adams is a junior at SUNY Old Westbury majoring in education. She is into fashion but does not keep up with the trends. Adams said, “The fashion trends I find particularly unappealing would be wearing pajamas to class. It feels like you just rolled out of bed and pulled up to school for class. I am a victim of it and do it too sometimes.”

Pajamas are comfy, but some students disagree that it makes a fashion statement. Pajamas are traditionally worn to bed and showing up to class with them may look like you put no effort into your style. However, it does show you are more laid-back and comfortable.

Gabriella Singh is a sophomore majoring in Politics, Economics, and Law. She believes “oversized vintage jeans that are worn without a belt can be seen as unappealing because it is supposed to look like a skateboarder, but it does not look like that in any way.”

Young adults are creating new fashion trends every day to keep up with pop culture. Not everyone enjoys following all the new popular trends in the media.

Some students celebrate free expression in clothes and wear whatever they want, choosing comfort over ‘creating an aesthetic.’ Other students make an effort to dress up for class and show their styles.

Students will not applaud every fashion trend. Fashion can be looked at from many angles. You may like that top that your best friend hates. Remember, your personal style is defined by you. The way you wear clothes will show how you embrace your unique fashion. Everyone has a different form of expression in clothes.
