The Old Westbury Men’s Volleyball team has entered its first collegiate season in Skyline Conference play. Ryan Pastuch is Old Westbury’s first head coach for the Men’s Volleyball team.

Pastuch has been the head coach of the boys’ volleyball team at Calhoun High School since 2015. Pastuch led the Calhoun Colts to 3 county championships (2020, 2022, and 2023). Pastuch was named Coach of the Year multiple times with Calhoun. Having a highly regarded coach like Mr. Pastuch should be a good boost for the Men’s Volleyball team, who are playing their first Division 3 season in the Skyline Conference.

“This is the first year here at Old Westbury and it’s a new program. I’m really excited to get things going,” Pastuch said. “We are just trying to work on skills and now that we’re starting to get into our season, we’re improving a lot. So, I’m really proud of the guys and the hard work they put in so far.”

Pastuch started off working on skills with the team but he is now working on strategy. “We’re running different rotations and working on a few different things. So, we’re still trying to find our groove,” he explained. “But the guys are getting a lot better and we’re improving every day. We’re looking good so far.”

The Men’s Panthers Volleyball team is 1-9, earning their first ever win against Yeshiva University on March 5. They entered the fifth set with a tied match score. Anthony Moyett, James Seraphin, and Val Holmes led the team in kills. Kosta Anagnostou led the team in assists.

The team is slowly getting into their stride and Coach Pastuch understands that it will take some time and some growing pains before the Old Westbury Panthers have a successful program.

“I know that this is going to be difficult for us at first with us being a brand-new program here at Old Westbury and that there are going to be challenges and obstacles we have to hover over,” he said. “We must stick together as a team, believing in ourselves and give it our best every night.”

Coach Pastuch and his men’s Panthers volleyball team earned their second win against Yeshiva University on March 22.
