Hispanic Heritage Month

On Saturday September 21, 2019 renowned Bachata artist Romeo Santos made history by being the first Latin American artist to sell out Metlife Stadium as a headliner. That Metlife night, the Utopia concert celebrated his latest album Utopia which was a collaboration of many of his bachata inspirations such as Raulin Rodriguez, Monchy y Alexandra, Zaccarias Ferreira and many others.

Santos sang for 4 hours to a crowd of about 80,000 people and even brought out the group that began his career as a singer in Aventura, which split in 2011 which allowed for him to launch his solo artist career.

This is also not the first time Santos made history, in 2014 he was the first Latino solo artist to headline in Yankee Stadium. During his performance, at the Utopia concert he said that he was not even able to express how his emotions.

Awards night tend to have some surprises and unforgettable memories. This past Emmy awards night the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie was given to Jharrel Jerome. Jerome made history by being the first Afro-Latino and first Dominican to win this award.

The award comes after a very chilling role he played portraying Korey Wise in the Netflix Limited Series “When They See Us.” The limited series tells the story of the Central Park Five (now known as The Exonerated Five) and all that they went through as young men who were ages 14-16 at the time, while being accused of the rape of Trish Meili. Jerome thanked the five men for their bravery and for allowing Ava DuVernay to share their story and allowing for him to be a part of it.

“This is for Raymond, Yusef, Antron, Kevin and King Korey Wise. Thank you so much.” he said. “It’s an honor. It’s a blessing.” The humble king takes the stage with his win, and along side came a genuine, room-filled applause.
