Georgia Shouldn’t Open too Soon

Georgia amongst other states in the US was ordered to follow protocols and temporarily shut down their state due to Covid-19. Georgia Governor Kemp opened up all businesses in abrupt fashion on April  24th. All gyms, churches, hair and nail salons, tattoo parlors, and even restaurants and movie theaters shocked people across the country by opening.

I have family living in  Atlanta, and I spoke about this decision. My uncle said that it makes him debate whether Governor Kemp cares less about the people of this state and more about money. Governor Kemp is treating this as an experiment which is honestly scary, a major city should not be treated as an experiment. They should be taking the correct protocols to assure that everyone is safe. He gave a statement on why he made this decision, which is based on “favorable data” and also enhanced testing. However, the more you actually look at the data you see fluctuations among the data curves.

I am glad the citizens in Georgia saw this as a grave mistake and a bad opportunity to take in terms of going back to regular life so soon. This can cause so much damage not only for families but for the development of the state as a whole. Governor Kemp was looking at the financial part of the state of Georgia, not the people and their safety. One will actually think that he’s doing a good job. President Trump has commended him for his bravery. One might think this is a good thing for struggling families due to money being lost because of the large amount of jobs being suspended. Therefore, one might see this as a golden opportunity and look at him being aggressive in terms of moving on and allowing people to get back to work. Although this is true, it is the wrong time to think this way. It’s more important to consider how deadly a decision like this can be.
