Things to Do for Women’s History Month

March is the month when we celebrate women. There are many reasons why we celebrate this month; some are to acknowledge the importance of how women have impacted our society and also inspiring young females to pursue their dreams. Throughout the years, we have learned facts, either from searching on Google or from learning in school. Even though we may have the facts, oftentimes we forget to discuss what the community can do to bring more awareness.

Before the pandemic, there were a lot more locations to visit. Everything was much easier. People were allowed to attend festivities and celebrate, watch movies, attend book clubs, run marathons, and many more.

Women around the world have dedicated their lives to bring awareness to what we as females are capable of. Now, since it has been a year since the pandemic has begun, there are different ways to connect and celebrate safely.

One way could be doing research online, going on social media, and downloading apps. When downloading an app, it is preferable to download Feminist Activist ToolKit. This app focuses on the movement of women and the misconceptions while being a feminist. While conducting research online, people become aware of the issues women continue to face. For example, women continue to earn a lower income, while men continue to have a higher salary. Not only do women have to deal with work stigma, but they also have to fight double standards.

Nowadays, everyone has social media. By using social media, people can easily share videos, articles, powerful quotes, and images that catch attention. Hosting a virtual event can bring together people from different backgrounds, allowing women to speak on their stories. Not only can people come together to share their inputs, but they also can host different kinds of virtual events. Some of those events can involve watching movies, listening to music led by females, and acknowledge the women in your life. Hosting a virtual game night through zoom is an alternative way of bringing others together.

Though those suggestions are only a small change, there are other ways of celebrating. Sometimes, not only is it important to celebrate other women but also to acknowledge ourselves. Focusing on yourself and educating yourself brings a sensation of accomplishment. Another way of feeling like you have accomplished something is volunteering at a local women’s advocacy group/center. Being able to add some decorations to someone’s clothing by handing out women’s empowerment stickers and pins. Gathering friends and creating a bulletin board with women you may aspire to be or look up to is another way of celebrating this month.

Women have impacted our society. We have learned about different cultures, and we have seen the progression there has been throughout the years. Women not only have influenced cultures, but also through literature, music, photography, etc. They have surfaced and passed barriers to overcome any obstacles throughout their life, hoping to inspire future generations. All of those barriers they endured show the beauty and imagination of these women, and empower future females of this upcoming generation.
