Harry Styles’ tour titled “Love on Tour” began in Las Vegas, Nevada. But on October 3rd, Styles came to Madison Square Garden. This first night in New York was sold out as twenty-thousand fans poured into this arena for the common goal of seeing Styles in live action.

Styles will be returning to New York City for three more shows: October 16, 30, and 31. The two last NYC shows are called ‘Harryween’ and will have a special guest of Orville Peck.

Styles’ album titled “Fine Line” was released in December of 2019. This tour was postponed from the summer of 2020 due to the impending dangers of COVID-19.

Of course, the opening act came first: Jenny Lewis. Jenny Lewis is an American singer and songwriter. She was previously in the band Rilo Kiley, which gave her the experience of performing. Lewis performed a few songs to get the show started as the rest of the stadium filled. Lewis performed some of her most listened to songs titled, “Red Bull & Hennessy,” “Just One of the Guys,” and “She’s Not Me.” Although I had never listened to Lewis before her live performance, I will after her lively performance and encapsulating voice.

The concert then began with a pre-recorded clip of Styles speaking; it included his appreciation for the fans by thanking them for being safe and making this concert possible. In order to enter Madison Square Garden, all attendees had to either have proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the past 24 hours. The crowd was passionate after this message from Styles and the screeching of the fans began. This simple yet thoughtful part of the performance made the concert even more enjoyable knowing that the wait was well worth it.

Styles himself emerged from the center of the stage, allowing people in all sections to be able to see him. His beloved fans were ecstatic as he made his big entrance with bright lights and loud sporadic music clips. This long-awaited night, as most fans bought these tickets in 2019, began with the welcoming and upbeat song titled “Golden.”

After the exciting introduction into the show, Styles paused in his performance to tell the fans his plans for the show. He said, “My job is to entertain you, and I promise you will go out to the very best.” Fans cheered as they already knew he would keep that promise of entertaining them for the night. “You also have one job and that’s to have as much fun as you possibly can… Please feel free to be whoever it is you always wanted to be tonight. Let’s have some fun.”

The show continued with Styles’ contagious energy as he made his way to every part of the big stage that stretched to each section of the stadium, which allowed fans to constantly feel included. He serenaded the crowd with his live version of songs including “She,” “Adore You,” and “Fine Line.” He graced fans with his rendition of the song titled “What Makes You Beautiful” by the now separated band, One Direction, whom Styles was a part of from 2010-2016. The ode to One Direction appealed to the crowd as they cheered loudly.

Styles’ performance on October 3 only supports the idea that he is an amazing entertainer and deserves the praise he gets. At one point, he encouraged his fans to ‘tell the people you love, that you love them.’ As he said this, fans all around the stadium embraced each other with hugs and other signs of affection. This was towards the end of the concert and Styles fulfilled the theme of his tour title being “Love On Tour.”
