Love is Blind is a hit dating reality TV show that’s exclusive to Netflix. The show is essentially an experiment in which the contestants cannot see each other or communicate outside of the pod. The pod is a small room where contestants can hear, but not see, the person on the other side of the wall in the pod.
Contestants are forced to build an emotional connection in a matter of days. They date one another to see who catches their interests and the producers help arrange dates. They have journals to write down their thoughts and feelings to help them on their journey to find love. Once an emotional connection is made, they are only allowed to see each other after they get engaged.
In season 2 of Love is Blind there were only two successful marriages out of the few who got engaged. This season had it all compared to season 1. Between some of the couples, there was lying, sarcasm, and gaslighting. When there are two people in the pod getting to know each other there are intimate moments being created with the stories, secrets, and feelings being told to someone they don’t know but feel comfortable sharing.
Their initial reaction lets the other person know they are safe and not alone. A bond is being created by two people through a wall and it forms a feeling that is unexplainable. The idea is ridiculous; falling in love with someone you never met. But does that mean you only fall in love with someone physically?
This season showcased what to stay away from. One man, rather than getting to know someone emotionally, asked questions about their weight and what they look like. Seeing if he could find his type through the many women who are trying to find love, questioning weight and physical traits could be uncomfortable without being sensitive to insecurities. This is NOT the point of the show.
Another example is someone who wanted to spend the rest of their life with their soulmate they just met. When it comes to saying “I Do” at the wedding, they did not. This was humiliating when one has to hear “no” at the altar after constantly hearing “I can’t wait to be married to you.”
The show has many challenges. You can have a bond with someone and love them with everything in you but if the emotional connection does not match the feeling when you first physically see them, then here comes the second guess. If you’re not physically attracted to the person you love it will end up being confusing not only for you but the person who’s in love with you.
This season was quite toxic. In the show, they get presented with a question: “Is love really blind?” The contestants then give their personal opinion to this question.
Many events happened throughout the season that one can learn from. Finding your worth and self-love is most important. You can’t marry someone who isn’t sure about you even if you’re sure about them. One deserves to be loved unconditionally and passionately and proud of the person they fell in love with. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.
While this season is not everything that its viewers hoped to be, it was still very entertaining to watch. There are people out there still rooting for love and happiness in life, and this season is full of them. It’s different to view these strangers falling in love. The public perceives them as their most vulnerable.
This season will have your jaw dropping with certain people and events. If you happen to be shuffling through Netflix because you have nothing to watch, check out Love is Blind.
