Review: Triangle Strategy

Triangle strategy is a solid strategy game if you’re into this sort of game but not for a casual fan of the genre. Triangle strategy was developed by Artdink who doesn’t have any major game developed but was published by Square Enix and Nintendo and shares a similar art style and producer Asano with Octopath Traveler.

Triangle strategy feels like a good strategy with the combat itself. It shares a similar system with other Nintendo strategy namely Fire Emblem: Three Houses, with the clarity on where the positioning of the characters and who will attack that character. But it adds the mechanic of what happens after combat of where your character faces as it makes sure the enemy doesn’t have a backstab critical attack. The art style is also a strongpoint, the game looks great especially considering the less powerful switch console its impressive what the game does with that limitation.A screenshot of a video game

The main issue with Triangle Strategy is the same issue I have with Octopath Traveler: it’s the dialogue. The dialogue makes it seem like a Shakespeare play acting out and while people love this sort of writing I personally felt disconnected from the action because they don’t talk like people they talk like actors.

Overall I’d say that Triangle Strategy is a solid strategy, role playing game but shouldn’t be the first game in peoples introduction into the genre. I’d recommend playing different strategy games such as XCOM or the mentioned Fire Emblem games but as a regular in the series I’d say give it a shot.
