Nostalgia is defined as a sentimental longing or craving to revisit a part of the past often associated with personal and happy memories.
As a college student, when your inner child begins to resurface, what better way to connect with your nostalgia than to revisit a fond pastime?
Look no further than the DIY Slime Event hosted by the Physical Health and Wellness club on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m.!
The Physical Health and Wellness is a “student led organization focusing promoting the well-being of the general student body,” said Matilda Asiedu, the vice president of the club.
As exam season is in the air and stress clutters the mind, the Physical Health and Wellness club intends to give students a fun break from exams, promote community, and allow students to relieve themselves of stress.
“Our club is to help students find balance in their day-to-day life physically, emotionally and mentally,” said, Maryum Faisal, the president of the club. “It helps get students engaged in physical activities with other people.”
Students are equally ecstatic as they are curious as to why slime is the focus of the event.
Faisal pitched the idea and refers to the slime trends back in 2016 when there was a huge trend with slime on YouTube for kids and teenagers alike.
“The main reason I chose it is because there’s a lot of nostalgia in it — it’s also very therapeutic,” she said. “The texture of and feeling it and playing with it can help someone mentally decompress.”
The sentiment is shared amongst students that anticipate this opportunity to create their own slime.
“I have a lot of fond memories,” Faisal said. “I watched how to make slime with or without glue and other types of slime creation videos. It made me feel resourceful — it was simple and messy and a quick thing to make and you could share it with people. It’s a very connective activity.”
The event will offer each student a DIY slime kit. Each slime starts out as transparent and opaque. From there, students will be able to dye the slime, accessorize, make it sparkly with glitter, mix with clay and fully transform the slime to their heart’s desire.
