When was the last time you and your family watched a “feel good” movie? Well, look no further; Jingle Jangle is here to do just that.
We’ve been isolated in our homes for months now, and there are very few things that are able to entertain us while we are cooped up. Christmas movies have always been one of the highlights of the holiday season, and with thousands to choose from, there are only a few we name as favorites and classics. Since it’s release, I have heard rave reviews on this new favorite and I had no choice but to see for myself if this film lived up to its hype. Jingle Jangle will forever be added to my yearly Christmas watch list. It featured an all-star cast with Forest Whitaker, Ricky Martin, Anika Noni-Rose, Keegan Key and the legendary Phylicia Rashad. With all of our favorite actors and actresses in one movie, this film already sets the bar pretty high, even for a Netflix original.
This magical production is a perfect balance between reality and fantasy. This film allows families of all ages to enjoy it; love, hope, sadness, and peace are all feelings that are relatable and make for a great Christmas movie. Jingle Jangle evokes them all and then some. Netflix has done a great job with this production; out of the handful of Christmas movies I’ve seen by them this one is definitely the best. The inclusivity of the film is what makes it magical, since people of all shapes, shades and social classes are represented. The music and the choreography add to the entertaining film by softening the unfortunate events that are represented in various scenes.
At the start of the film, you think that the story will be one we have all heard before, with an opening scene of children and a Christmas story. However, this isn’t your ordinary holiday adventure. David E Talbert, the director of the film, has given us the festive holiday cheer we all need this year. The magical element is what grabs your attention, and the fairytale aspect isn’t over done even with talking toys and floating objects.
The performance of this award winning cast is phenomenal. From the youngest to the oldest, the level of professionalism is shown on the screen. Who doesn’t love a musical and a swift dance number? The choreography hit every step and aligned perfectly with each melodic lyric. This harmonious marriage is soft on the ears and brings the joy we look forward to in every holiday film we see.
If you’re in need of family time or even some much needed time alone to block out the uncertainty of this world, this movie will do just that. You’ll walk away with all the feels and the Christmas spirit we all definitely need this year. Cozy up on your couch and enjoy Jingle Jangle!
